The Strange Case of Doctor Rx

Crispin defenders criminals in court to build a reputation as a brilliant defense attorney, then murders them after their trials concludes. His twisted philosophy is that the justice system is flawed, so he takes it upon himself to eliminate the guilty after they escape legal consequences. This explains why all five victims were his own former clients.

Dr. Rx is revealed to be defense attorney Dudley Crispin himself. He created the mysterious killer persona to cover his murder spree, making it appear as if a serial killer was targeting his clients when he was actually the one committing the crimes.

Church was faking unconsciousness the entire time. After being abducted by Dr. Rx, he pretended to be unconscious and worked with Dr. Fish behind the scenes to gather evidence against Crispin. This ruse allowed him to trap Crispin into revealing his guilt.

The timeline shows Church found unconscious the next morning, but later reveals it was staged.

Crispin killed himself with a poison-dart gun when his scheme was about to be exposed. Rather than face arrest and exposure for his crimes, he chose suicide to avoid the humiliation of being caught. His death removes him as an antagonist and closes his arc.

During Church's abduction, Dr. Rx planned to transplant Church's brain into a gorilla. This bizarre threat was part of the horror-tinged B-movie elements, adding a macabre twist to the investigation and raising the stakes beyond a typical murder mystery.

Another detective attempting to solve the Dr. Rx case broke down mentally and went insane. This was meant to emphasize the psychological terror of the case and warn Church of the danger involved, showing that pursuing Dr. Rx had severe consequences.

Despite recently marrying Kit and her pleas to leave the danger behind, Church was pressured by defense attorney Crispin and his former police partner Captain Hurd to accept the case. Their insistence and the gravity of the serial killings pulled him back into investigative work.

Kit wanted Church to abandon the case because the investigation had become dangerously lethal, with multiple murders and warnings that solving the case could lead to madness or death. Her push to move away represents the personal stakes threatening their new marriage.
