As the final days of 1928 approached, Arthur Spiderwick meticulously compiled his field guide, documenting his encounters with fairies and other magical beings. His excitement was tinged with worry, knowing that the nefarious Mulgarath sought the secrets contained within for malicious purposes.

Eighty years later, Helen Grace moves her family into the abandoned Spiderwick estate, seeking a fresh start after her divorce. She arrives with her three children: Mallory, Jared, and Simon, who face the challenges of adjusting to their new home amidst its faded grandeur.

While exploring the old estate, Jared stumbles upon a concealed dumbwaiter that leads him into the hidden study of Arthur Spiderwick. Here, he discovers a world filled with intriguing magical artifacts and texts, igniting his curiosity about the fantastical secrets of the estate.

After inadvertently upsetting Thimbletack, a brownie who guards the estate, Jared calms him with an offering of crackers and honey. In return, Thimbletack gifts Jared a special stone that allows him to see fairies, widening his understanding of the magical creatures around him.

The tranquility is shattered when Simon is kidnapped by goblins, led by the cunning Redcap. Simon finds himself trapped in a goblin camp, while Jared, filled with determination, plans a rescue.

Jared bravely infiltrates the goblin camp, where he encounters Hogsqueal, a hobgoblin who provides him with secret knowledge. Hogsqueal helps Jared gain the ability to see fairies without the stone, enhancing his resolve to rescue his brother.

After successfully rescuing Simon, the twins decide to unite and take back the stolen book from the dark forces. Armed with newfound courage, they prepare to confront the goblins threatening their lives.

In search of guidance, the children consult their great-aunt Lucinda Spiderwick. Together, they narrowly escape a troll, demonstrating their growing strength and resourcefulness against the goblins.

At Lucinda's psychiatric facility, the children learn that they need Arthur's assistance to destroy the cursed book. Just as they receive this vital information, Redcap's goblin minions attack, successfully stealing several pages from the manuscript.

Confrontations escalate as the goblins execute their plan to break the magical barrier, sending the family into chaos. Amidst the turmoil, a figure believed to be their father is revealed to be Mulgarath in disguise, culminating in a thrilling battle.

As Mulgarath's scheme unfolds, the family prepares for a final battle against a horde of goblins. The confrontation culminates in a spectacular explosion of tomato sauce, ultimately leading to the goblins' defeat.

In a tense moment, Jared outsmarts Mulgarath and sends him tumbling off the roof of the estate. Mulgarath's desperate attempt to seize the Book results in his ultimate demise when he is consumed by Hogsqueal.

In the weeks following their victory, Lucinda joins the family for an emotional reunion. As she answers her longing to reclaim her youth, she and Arthur depart with the sylphs, leaving the Grace family with a sense of wonder and longing.

With the dust settling, Helen and Jared reconcile after a tumultuous journey filled with challenges. The family begins to understand the delicacy of their relationships in light of the extraordinary events they've experienced together.
