The Royal Hotel

Hanna and Liv arrive in Australia as adventurous backpackers. After depleting their finances in Sydney, they seek work opportunities to continue their travels.

The two friends start their new jobs as bartenders at the Royal Hotel located in a remote Outback mining town. They are introduced to the pub's owner, Billy, and his wife, Carol, who is also the chef.

On their first shift, Hanna and Liv host a chaotic farewell party for the previous bartenders, Jules and Cassie. They meet various patrons, but Hanna quickly feels uncomfortable with the aggressive atmosphere.

After the farewell party, local patron Matty visits and takes the girls to a swimming spot. This excursion helps Hanna form a tentative connection with Matty, while Liv remains unfazed by the locals’ behavior.

Hanna and Liv notice the tension between Billy and Carol as they learn that Billy is behind on payments to deliveryman Tommy. Carol expresses her worries about their financial struggles.

During a night shift, Hanna has to fend off Matty's unwelcome advances while Liv sleeps. Matty later apologizes, but Hanna continues to feel the sting of harassment from the customers.

As Hanna endures ongoing harassment, Liv starts to fit in with the locals, spending more time drinking and neglecting her work duties. This shift in dynamics begins to strain their friendship.

One evening, while Hanna is alone at the bar, Dolly's drunken advances escalate, prompting Billy to intervene. Despite being shaken, Liv dismisses Hanna's concerns about Dolly's behavior.

An incident with a snake escalates when Dolly offers to help catch it, but leaves a dead snake in a jar with Hanna's name on it. This deeply disturbs Hanna, adding to her anxiety in the Outback town.

Hanna decides to confront Billy about their unpaid wages, leading to an argument that results in Billy injuring himself. Carol rushes Billy to the hospital, leaving the girls to fend for themselves.

To cheer up Liv, Hanna organizes a birthday celebration on their last night. However, tension arises when Hanna discovers Liv has gone off with Dolly, leading to a frantic search.

In a bid to protect Liv, Hanna slashes the tire of Dolly's car with an axe. This act of desperation leads to a fractious exchange between the friends, heightening the already fraught atmosphere.

The situation escalates when Hanna discovers that Dolly and Matty have broken into their living quarters. A struggle ensues as Hanna tries to defend Liv from their intentions.

Realizing the danger, Liv manages to escape Dolly's grasp. In the ensuing chaos, Teeth crashes into Dolly's vehicle to protect Liv, signaling a turning point in their once carefree adventure.

In a final act of rebellion, Hanna sets the Royal Hotel ablaze as the girls smash liquor bottles in defiance of their circumstances. They walk away together, reflecting on their tumultuous journey as the hotel burns behind them.
