The Projected Man

Dr. Steiner and Dr. Mitchell develop a projection device capable of transmitting objects within several miles. The early tests succeed with inanimate objects, but attempts on living subjects consistently end in their deaths, signaling a dangerous flaw.

Dr. Patricia Hill arrives to assist with the project and helps fix the fatal error that caused the deaths of living subjects. With the fix, Steiner believes the problem has been solved and the team grows more hopeful.

Blanchard, Steiner's boss, is being blackmailed by Mr. Latham who wants credit for the discovery. He forces Blanchard to push Steiner toward giving a premature presentation to Professor Lembach.

Steiner, Mitchell, and Hill prepare to present, but Blanchard orchestrates a staged event. During the demonstration, Blanchard secretly sabotages the machine by applying acid, causing an explosion that halts funding immediately.

The catastrophic explosion ends funding for Steiner's project. The team is left demoralized, and the project appears to be doomed.

Mitchell discovers that the device has been tampered with, undermining the integrity of the experiment. Steiner then confronts Blanchard at his house with Lembach and Latham, presenting the evidence that the sabotage was deliberate and forcing Lembach to consider a second chance.

Steiner plans another projection, this time toward Lembach's residence, with some help from his secretary Sheila. Mitchell and Hill return to the laboratory and attempt to intervene, urging caution and reversal.

Sheila, inexperienced with the device, accidentally projects Steiner to a construction site instead of Lembach's house. He finds a hideout of thieves attempting to break into a bank and discovers he can kill people by touch, with his body badly mutilated due to the projection error. He then steals a pair of rubber gloves and a coat to blend in before returning to the institute.

Steiner breaks into the institute and confronts Latham, killing him. He also destroys the building's power supply, which alerts Hill and Mitchell that something has gone wrong.

Steiner kidnaps Sheila and uses interrogation to uncover why Blanchard and Latham plotted against him. He reveals his anger toward them, then sets Sheila's apartment on fire with her inside, though she survives the blaze.

Steiner tracks Blanchard to his house and kills him in retribution for the sabotage and manipulation. The act closes a chapter of his vendetta against those behind the project.

Steiner appears at Hill's house, demanding more electricity so he can survive the projection's effects. Hill and Mitchell try to calm him and persuade him to return to the laboratory and attempt a reversal, but Steiner walks off toward a power plant.

Davis, Hill, and Mitchell pursue Steiner to a power plant. Davis fires at him, but Steiner resists, forcing the trio to reassess their approach as they try to guide him back to the lab.

The trio lures Steiner back to the lab as the facility catches fire and the projection device spirals out of control. Steiner is struck by the projection device's laser and disappears into the blaze, ending the climax.
