The Princess and the Magic Mirror

In 1926, Tiana works two waitress jobs in New Orleans to save money for her dream restaurant. She sacrifices her social life to fund her goal, never giving up on a future where she can own a successful eatery. The city is a backdrop to her ambitious plan.

Prince Naveen arrives in town with the intent to marry Tiana's wealthy friend Charlotte to regain his fortune. Big Daddy hosts a masquerade ball in Naveen's honor, and Charlotte asks Tiana to provide beignets for the event as a means to earn money for the old mill.

Dr. Facilier plots to seize the La Bouff fortune through a voodoo spell. He uses a talisman containing Naveen's blood to transform Naveen into a frog and Lawrence into a doppelganger of Naveen. The disguises set the stage for a dangerous scheme involving marriage and murder.

At the ball, Tiana discovers she has been outbid for the mill and is lent a princess costume by Charlotte. Mistaken for a real princess, Naveen asks for a kiss to break the spell, offering money to fund Tiana's restaurant. She reluctantly agrees, and both are transported into frog bodies, forcing them to flee toward the bayou.

The newly transformed frogs escape into the bayou and meet Louis, a jazz-loving alligator who dreams of becoming a great musician. Louis' optimism and musical spirit lift their hopes as they seek help from a powerful voodoo practitioner. The trio begins their quest to break the spell.

Ray, a firefly with a bright personality, joins the group and lights the way through the swamp. He helps guide them to Mama Odie, a legendary voodoo priestess who might have the answers they need. His presence strengthens the budding bond between Tiana and Naveen.

During their journey, Tiana and Naveen start to fall for each other as Naveen learns to take responsibility. Their feelings give them hope that breaking the spell could also mean a shared future. Mama Odie's guidance keeps their goals in view as obstacles mount.

With the talisman running dry, Facilier summons his otherworldly allies to retrieve Naveen's blood and bolster his spell. He unleashes an army of shadow demons to threaten the city and push his plan toward fruition. The stakes for Tiana and Naveen grow ever higher.

Mama Odie reveals that only a kiss from a true princess can break the spell. The realization places Charlotte's Mardi Gras royalty into play, and the group understands time is running short before the curse can be completed. The lesson solidifies the path toward a potential happy ending.

The group travels by steamboat back toward New Orleans as Naveen confesses his love for Tiana. He contemplates proposing, but ultimately decides against it because the spell restoration hinges on kissing Charlotte and fulfilling his promise to her family. Hope remains, but the clock is ticking.

At the Mardi Gras parade, Tiana discovers that the disguise of Lawrence is marrying Charlotte. Ray rescues the real Naveen and steals the talisman, but is mortally wounded by Facilier in the process. Faced with a final plea, Facilier offers to grant Tiana's dream in exchange for the talisman.

Tiana refuses Facilier's bargain and destroys the talisman, sending the voodoo spirits to drag Facilier into their world. Ray dies and is later reincarnated as a star, a funeral rite honoring his sacrifice. Tiana and Naveen are married in a ceremony led by Mama Odie, and they are restored to human form when they kiss, signaling the start of their restaurant dream as Tiana's Palace.
