In October 1830, Augustus Landor, a retired detective haunted by personal demons, receives a request from the military regarding a troubling incident. Cadet Leroy Fry has been found hanging at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, leading Landor to step back into the world he longed to leave behind.

Upon examining Fry's body in the morgue, Landor stumbles upon a crucial piece of evidence: a torn note clutched in the cadet's hand. This note suggests that Fry’s death might not have been a suicide, as it indicates a prior clandestine meeting, raising more questions about the circumstances surrounding his demise.

Driven by the need to uncover the truth, Landor recruits Edgar Allan Poe, a fellow cadet intrigued by the mystery. Together, they delve into the significance of the note, leading them further into the dark investigation that begins to reveal horrific clues.
