Peter Barrett, portrayed by Charlie Weber, operates covertly for the CIA when he unexpectedly encounters a man in disguise at a diner. This man is revealed to be his CIA superior and adopted father, Jon Voight, also known as Henry Byrne. After losing his parents in a terrorist attack that also rendered him temporarily deaf, Peter was taken in by Byrne. While Peter’s hearing has returned, it is now heightened to an ultrasonic level.

Peter is tasked with a critical mission: to locate a Russian arms dealer involved in drug smuggling, extract sensitive information from his watch, and eliminate him. Following this meeting, Peter reaches out to his pregnant wife, Rryla McIntosh, who is also a CIA agent, for support.

Initially, the operation proceeds smoothly as Peter captures the target, Doug Chapman, succeeds in downloading the necessary intel, and dispatches the target’s guards. However, just as Peter prepares to execute his target, he is interrupted by Elena and her colleagues, who inform him that they need the target alive for court proceedings. In a tense moment, the target seizes a weapon and fires at Peter, grazing him, but Peter retaliates, ultimately killing the target. Tragically, during this chaos, Elena is shot and loses their unborn child. This incident strains Peter’s relationships with both Elena and Byrne, the former leaving him while the latter denies any prior knowledge of her involvement.

Seventeen years later, Peter—now living as a painter named Mark Nicholson in the serene Cascade mountains—lives a life shrouded in solitude while Elena remains active within the CIA. A shocking incident occurs when Elena receives vital intelligence from her colleague Stephen Lobo, who is subsequently murdered by an assassin desperately seeking the secret information.

Unexpectedly, Peter receives a package that reveals a connection to his past: art books inscribed by Elena, recalling a shared moment from their marriage. When he visits a bar run by his friend, Leah Gibson, he encounters a young girl named Madison Bailey, who claims to be searching for him on behalf of her missing mother, Elena. Peter, in denial of his identity, rebuffs her advances until she cleverly draws out the truth by referencing a painting of her mother.

Their fragile peace is shattered when a group of mercenaries attack upon locating them. In a swift turn of events, Sophia defends herself, leading Peter to flee with her and a few belongings, including the precious art books. Meanwhile, Marie Avgeropoulos, who plays Naomi Piasecki—the CIA Section Chief—demands a manhunt for Peter, convinced he is now a rogue agent responsible for the murder of several federal operatives.

As Peter scrambles to uncover the truth behind the attack, he seeks assistance from Jason Gray-Stanford, a local computer expert. After some deliberation and persuasion, Niles agrees to delve into the CIA network and uncovers that Peter’s records are classified due to ongoing CIA internal investigations. Faced with mounting pressure from the agency, Peter attempts to reconnect with Byrne, hoping he can provide clarity on the chaos unraveling around them.

An attack by an enigmatic assassin, known as Ghost and played by Max Montesi, further complicates matters. As Peter strives to protect both himself and Sophia, he finds a flash drive hidden in the art book, revealing a disturbing secret—the CIA’s sinister program, The Internship, which exploited children to create top-tier assassins.

Desperate to fulfill Elena’s final request to protect their daughter, Peter battles his former ally Byrne, confronts the treacherous Piasecki, and confronts the horrors of the past. During a confrontation that leaves various parties gravely injured, Sophia ultimately chooses her own fate, turning on Byrne in a poignant act that signifies her struggle for autonomy.

In the aftermath, while reflecting on the tumultuous events, Peter recovers one final piece of evidence that could change everything. A message from Elena captures his attention as he prepares for the next wave of challenges. The story culminates in a breathless chase while leaving viewers questioning the very nature of loyalty, family, and redemption amidst the murky depths of espionage and betrayal.
