In Chicago, 1956, Leonard Burling, portrayed by Mark Rylance, is introduced as an English tailor running a custom clothing shop. Surrounded by the influence of the Irish Mob, he navigates this tumultuous environment while sustaining a business that surprisingly relies on the loyalty of mobsters.

Roy Boyle, the head of the Irish Mob, exerts significant pressure on Leonard's shop as his son Richie and enforcer Francis frequently utilize it for their illicit activities. This peculiar relationship complicates Leonard's life as he attempts to maintain a semblance of normalcy amidst the chaos of organized crime.
