The Open House

A suburban father is killed after being hit by a car, leaving Naomi and her teenage son Logan with little income. Naomi agrees to move to her sister's secluded mountain chalet until the house sells, hoping for a fresh start. The tragedy sets the family on a tense, uncertain path in a new and isolating home.

Naomi and Logan relocate to the mountain chalet, where they must endure an unusual rule: during open house days they have to leave the property in the morning and return after 5 p.m. This restriction heightens their sense of isolation and vulnerability. The enforced absence adds pressure on their first days in the new home.

Soon after moving in, objects are moved or disappear and the house phone rings with no one on the line. The hot water tank keeps shutting off, and eerie noises echo through the empty rooms. Naomi and Logan grow increasingly convinced that someone else is inside the house.

Logan spots a car idling in the driveway and later encounters their elderly neighbor Martha, who behaves erratically. She hints that her husband is alive despite earlier claims of his death, deepening the mystery around the home. The interaction casts doubt on the quiet life they hoped to find.

A repairman is called to inspect the faulty hot water tank and explains that Martha's husband did die and that Martha has Alzheimer's, which causes confusion. Naomi and Logan reassess what they’ve heard from Martha and begin to understand that her behavior may stem from illness rather than malice. The moment reframes some of their fears.

Naomi finds a crumpled family photo in the trash and the repairman discovers Logan's missing phone near the water heater. Naomi suspects Logan is sabotaging or playing tricks, further straining their relationship. The growing mistrust compounds the house's unsettling atmosphere.

Tension escalates as Naomi and Logan sense that someone else is lurking inside the home. There is no obvious break-in, yet the sense of being watched intensifies. The chalet feels like a trap rather than a sanctuary.

The chalet is broken into and later a candlelit dinner is eerily prepared on the table, with law enforcement finding no clear evidence. The staged scene heightens the sense that someone is toying with them. Naomi and Logan grow doubly paranoid about the stability of their refuge.

Logan contacts Chris, who agrees to sleep on the couch. In the middle of the night, Chris goes missing and Logan later discovers him dead in his car with his throat slashed. The danger inside the house becomes brutally real and personal.

An unidentified man knocks Logan unconscious and goes after Naomi, bound and tortured after Naomi discovers photos of her and Logan sleeping. Logan wakes to find that all phones have had their SIM cards removed and snapped, preventing calls for help. The intruder's presence is violently confirmed.

In a tense moment, Logan stabs Naomi, mistaking her for the intruder. Naomi tells him to run as the intruder overpowers him and removes his contact lenses, leaving him unable to see clearly. The couple's fractured trust and fear culminate in a devastating misstep.

Logan escapes into the woods but succumbs to the freezing cold, dragging himself to a stream. The intruder reveals himself, then strangles Logan to death by the stream as dawn breaks, and drives toward the next open house. The haunting cycle continues outside the house that failed to protect them.
