Filmed on the ocean floor off the Bahamas, the story follows Count Dakkar, a benevolent scientist‑leader of a volcanic island near Hetvia who has abolished class distinctions. With his sister Sonia and fiancé engineer Nicolai Roget they build a submarine; Roget pilots its maiden voyage as Baron Falon, a despotic Hetvian ruler, invades. Falon pursues in a second sub, and both dive to the seafloor, finding a hidden realm of dragons, giant squids and an eerie unknown humanoid race.
