The Mummy’s Curse

The Southern Engineering Company attempts to drain the swamp for public development, but their work is disrupted by local superstitions. The workers believe the area is haunted by the mummy Kharis and his bride, remnants of a legend from 25 years earlier. These beliefs hinder the progress of the excavation project.

Dr. James Halsey and Dr. Ilzor Zandaab from the Scripps Museum arrive at the site to locate the missing mummies buried in the swamp. They introduce themselves to Pat Walsh, the head of the project, and begin their investigation, signaling the start of their quest to find the ancient remains.

A workman is murdered in the swamp, and the evidence suggests that the killer has unearthed the mummy of Kharis. Halsey deduces that the monster is involved, increasing the urgency of their search and raising fears about the supernatural danger.

Later that evening, Zandaab secretly meets Ragheb in the swamp, revealing himself as a High Priest and performing a ritual using tana leaves. Their aim is to resurrect Kharis to serve their dark purposes, and Zandaab kills an old sacristan who interrupts the ritual, allowing Kharis to rise.

During excavation, the mummy of Ananka is partially uncovered and reanimates, rising from the swamp. She immerses herself in a pond, shedding her mummified form and transforming into a young woman, indicating her resurrection and the curse's ongoing influence.

Cajun Joe finds the young woman, calling herself 'Kharis,' wandering in the swamp and takes her to Tante Berthe's pub. The girl exhibits ancient Egyptian knowledge despite her apparent amnesia. Kharis later murders Tante Berthe, attacking those attempting to help her.

Halsey and Betty Walsh find the unconscious girl by the road, and she is taken to their camp. Despite her amnesia, she displays Egyptian knowledge. Kharis then appears, attacking Cajun Joe and later capturing the girl, leading to her mysterious disappearance.

Betty asks Ragheb for help in finding Dr. Halsey, but he betrays her by taking her to the monastery instead. Ragheb, motivated by his own motives, makes advances on Betty, revealing his treacherous nature while Zandaab is angered by Ragheb's interference.

Halsey tracks Betty to the monastery, where Ragheb kills Zandaab with Kharis' aid. A struggle ensues between Ragheb and Halsey, culminating in Kharis turning against Ragheb after sensing his betrayal. The monster intervenes, attacking Ragheb and locking him inside a room.

Halsey, Betty, and others find the mummified remains of Princess Ananka in an adjoining room, confirming the completion of their investigation. Kharis and the curse are finally confronted, concluding the sequence of supernatural events.
