The Mark of Zorro

Don Diego de la Vega resigns from his cadet post and leaves Spain on a voyage toward California to confront the turmoil at home. He hopes to rescue his father and restore freedom from the tyrannical Alcalde. This departure marks the shift from a dutiful soldier to a covert fighter for justice.

Diego lands in the Pueblo of Los Angeles and immediately learns his father has been replaced as Alcalde by Don Luis Quintero, a puppet for Captain Esteban. The town endures high taxes, harsh laws, and frequent beatings for minor infractions. The once-free populace now lives under oppression.
