Red River Robin Hood

In the dusty, restless world of the Old West, Scott Yager wins a court ruling that upholds an old Spanish land grant, granting him ownership of much of the ranching land surrounding the town of Red River. With the grant secured, the angry ranchers face eviction or the grim prospect of becoming tenants under Yager’s thumb. Jim Carey, a hard-nosed cowhand, and his loyal companion Ike have left their former employer to return to Jim’s own ranch and team up with his partner, Chet Andrews. They learn from the town newspaper’s editor, Sam Sterling, about Yager’s victory and that [Chet Andrews] is behind bars for resisting an officer. Their path crosses Yager’s growing influence, and they also meet Carol Sterling, Sam’s daughter, whose curiosity and resolve will soon become central to the struggle.

Yager’s henchmen wreck the newspaper office to silence Sterling’s anti-Yager editorials, and the sheriff steps in during the ensuing brawl. After the dust settles, Ike discovers a tin star pinned to his shirt, a clue that will spark a daring plan. Jim and Ike decide to use the star as a clever ruse to secure Chet’s release by presenting him as a newly freed prisoner. The sheriff catches wind of the escape, but Jim, Ike, and Chet slip away before they can be stopped. With the ranchers strapped for cash and unable to pay rent for long, the trio hatch a bold scheme: they’ll return Chet under a false flag of a double-cross, hoping to win Yager’s trust and uncover a weakness in his operation.

Undercover, Jim and Ike don disguises as masked vigilantes and begin leaving messages signed by “Mr. Justice,” urging the ranchers to stand and fight. They strike at Yager’s rent collection by secretly robbing his men and returning the money to the ranchers, inflaming the conflict while maintaining plausible deniability. When they approach Yager to claim they, too, were robbed by Mr. Justice, the scheme deepens, and Yager’s suspicions turn toward Sterling. He orders the destruction of the evidence and evicts the ranchers with the looming threat of legal action, a move that tightens the tension around Red River.

Sam Sterling, meanwhile, questions the authenticity of the land grant and becomes determined to prove it a fake. Jim reports to Yager that the grant document must be placed in a safe location after overhearing whispers about its value. As Yager retrieves the document, Jim and Ike spring their trap, ambushing him as Mr. Justice and delivering the document to Sterling for examination. Sterling returns the paper, and Yager, recovering consciousness, finds Jim and Ike tied up outside, insisting that Mr. Justice ambushed them. He suspects Sterling knows who Mr. Justice is, a realization that pushes the conflict toward a violent confrontation.

The showdown moves to the newspaper office, where Yager confronts Sterling and Carol. Jim and Ike slip into the shadows, extinguish the lights, and a tense struggle erupts. The Sterlings escape, and the trio regroup to pursue the truth. They eventually uncover the capes and masks worn by Mr. Justice, a discovery that confirms the double-dealing behind the alias.

To counter the ruse, Yager orders two henchmen to masquerade as Mr. Justice and reclaim the rent money. As Carol works to gather petition signatures to reopen the case, resistance from the ranchers intensifies, and Yager’s deception appears to be unraveling. Carol rallies a posse and heads for Yager’s ranch, while Jim and Ike engage in a fierce confrontation with Yager and his men. The chase leads to a climactic pursuit, a high-stakes skirmish, and a dramatic capture of Yager.

Justice, in its own rough way, catches up with the villain as Jim subdues [Scott Yager], and the gang is brought to long prison sentences. In the aftermath, Carol and Jim share a heartfelt embrace, while Ike’s comic misstep—his ladder-stunt fall while reenacting the final clash—provides a light, humorous close to the ordeal. The town of Red River, though battered by schemes and violence, sees a fragile sense of justice restored, with the rightful order slowly returning to the ranches and streets below.
