Based on Mór Jókai’s classic novel, the film follows Timár (Ferenc Kiss), a humble ferryman on a Danish tugboat in the early‑19th century. After rescuing a Turkish noble’s daughter (Marisa Kormos) from drowning, he is granted her hand in marriage and gains great wealth. Yet Timár remains restless, haunted by memories of his first love, the flower girl Noémi (Anna Fuzes). His fortunes wane until, at last, he is allowed a tender reunion with the woman he has always cherished.
