The Legend of the Lone Ranger

Outlaw Butch Cavendish and his gang ride into 1854 Texas, chasing the Comanche boy Tonto. They massacre a nearby village, killing everyone but John Reid, who hides Tonto to protect him. The brush with death forges an unlikely bond between them, setting the course for their shared destiny.

On the Comanche reservation, Tonto teaches John how to shoot a bow, how to fight, and how to live like they do. The two boys form a deep bond and become blood brothers, vowng to watch over each other.

After leaving the reservation, John Reid heads to Detroit to pursue a legal career. He travels by stagecoach to a town where he plans to set up his law practice and start a new life.

Cavendish’s gang ambushes the stagecoach, killing the shotgun rider and wounding the driver. John stops the coach, but the outlaws seize a mailbag containing property deeds, raising the stakes for Reid’s future.

In town, John meets Amy Striker’s uncle Lucas and learns about Amy’s world. He reveals his plan to visit the Texas Rangers to see his brother Dan, tying his fate to frontier law and order.

Word spreads that Cavendish is nearby, and Ranger Collins rides ahead to scout, unaware he is in league with Cavendish. Cavendish and his men invade the town during a festival and ambush the Rangers, killing most of them while Reid is among the survivors who are rescued by Tonto.

Reid is wounded in the ambush and left for dead. Tonto finds and rescues him, pulling him back from the brink and beginning his rehabilitation with the Comanche ally at his side.

During recovery, Tonto teaches John to shoot with silver bullets and to ride with skill. John redoubles his resolve to fight crime and embraces the masked hero persona that begins to take shape as the Lone Ranger.

Cavendish captures President Ulysses S. Grant as a hostage, revealing his plan to take Texas into secession and to rule as an independent power. The hostage situation becomes the central leverage in his bid for control.

John and Tonto infiltrate Cavendish’s compound, rescue Grant, and blow up the fortress with dynamite they discover. They move carefully through guards, fighting their way to freedom while collapsing Cavendish’s operation.

Cavendish attempts to flee with the help of the U.S. Cavalry, but John pursues and ultimately captures him. The threat Cavendish posed to Texas and the Union is brought to a close by the Lone Ranger and his ally.

President Grant thanks John and Tonto for saving the nation and Texas from Cavendish’s schemes. The two ride off into the horizon as Grant asks, 'Who is that masked man?', leaving the legend of the Lone Ranger to begin.
