The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving

A series of meteorites near the Great Valley trigger a severe drought, leading to water shortages that threaten the survival of the valley's inhabitants. The drought prompts the dinosaurs to seek out new sources of water to sustain themselves. Mr. Threehorn becomes highly protective over the remaining water, acting stern and aggressive toward others.

Littlefoot and his friends embark on a journey to find additional water sources after their current supplies are dwindling. They face obstacles, including being pursued by a trio of teenage dinosaurs, which causes tension within their group. Mr. Threehorn's suspicion of Littlefoot's influence grows due to the bullying behavior of the teenagers.

The children find a small lake, offering a glimmer of hope for water. However, the bullies, Hyp, Mutt, and Nod, arrive and claim the waterhole for themselves, warning the others to keep silent about their discovery to maintain control. The group is forced to flee when the bullies threaten them.

While escaping the bullies, lightning strikes a nearby tree, igniting a wildfire that quickly spreads through the Great Valley. The dinosaurs scramble to find safety, making their way to the edge of the Mysterious Beyond to escape the blaze. This event devastates the valley’s environment and resources.

The children return to inform the adult dinosaurs about the water discovery, but disagreements erupt among them regarding the best course of action. The wildfire’s destruction complicates their efforts to resolve the water crisis, and the community begins to split on how to proceed.

The teenage dinosaurs decide to go ahead alone into the Mysterious Beyond to locate more water, aiming to beat the others to it. Littlefoot and friends follow closely behind, recognizing the potential danger and wanting to help if needed, leading to a new set of challenges.

While searching for water, Hyp mistakenly thinks a tar pit is a water source and becomes stuck. Littlefoot and his friends work together to free Hyp, demonstrating their unity and kindness. This event highlights cooperation and the importance of understanding among the young dinosaurs.

After Hyp is rescued, his father arrives and harshly scolds him for his reckless behavior. Observing Hyp’s frustration and realizing the parallels with Hyp’s father’s own treatment, Mr. Threehorn offers a compassionate lecture about understanding and patience. This leads to a reconciliation in their relationship.

A pack of Velociraptors attacks the herd, leading to a dramatic chase that results in a dam built from meteorite boulders collapsing. The dinosaurs work together to break the dam, causing a surge of water to wash away the predators and flood the area, saving the herd.

The released water floods the valley, dousing the remaining wildfires and restoring some of the drought-affected areas. The dinosaurs observe the water sweeping away the threats and begin to rebuild, emphasizing the theme of victory and renewal.

The herd returns to the Great Valley, only to find that most of their green food has been destroyed by the fires. Fortunately, they discover new patches of lush greenery, allowing them to share resources and survive together. The event marks the start of the 'Time of the Great Giving' as they cooperate to rebuild.
