The Island of the Lost (Die Insel der Verschollenen) is a 1921 German silent science‑fiction film loosely based on H. G. Wells’s 1896 novel The Island of Doctor Moreau, though unauthorized and apparently unknown to Wells. Long thought lost, a print was discovered in the Bundesarchiv, Berlin. Its first U.S. showing occurred at a Monster Bash convention in 2014, where viewers noted its illogical plot, comedic and romantic tone, and memorable human‑animal hybrid scenes.
