The Infernal Walker (2020) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of The Infernal Walker (2020), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Ting Cheuk-fei (Michael Tse Tin-Wah) is an undercover police officer who has spent seven years infiltrating the Fuk Wo triad. To keep his cover, Ting is more ruthless than other triad members, bending rules and suppressing personal ties to get closer to his elusive goal. His days are a careful dance of surveillance, menace, and calculated risks, where every move could edge him nearer to the truth or pull him deeper into the criminal underworld.

An act of high-stakes tension erupts when a fellow undercover officer, Van, is captured by Shawn, Ben Ng Ngai-Cheung, a ruthless leader of Fuk Wo. Ting is forced into brutal measures, torturing Van and witnessing his killing, an event that leaves him emotionally scarred and increasingly weary of the undercover life, even as he stays on the job with reluctant resolve.

On the other side of the conflict, Tuen Yat-fan (Pakho Chau) works for drug lord Sung Ching-kwong (Kenneth Chan), who has planted a mole inside the Hong Kong Police. Tuen has just been promoted to chief inspector of the Anti-Triad Unit and is on a fast track to becoming superintendent in two years. He also prepares for a future with Sin-yeung (Shiga Lin Si-Nga), his girlfriend who works within the unit’s interior department, and who dreams of him becoming a real, fully-fledged policeman.

The Fuk Wo triad is partnering with Sung’s Eastern Trading Company in a drug trade, and Tuen is ordered by his superiors to lead a raid—deciding not to tip Sung off. At the same time, Ting is chosen by Brother Hei (Benz Hui Siu-Hung) along with two other triads to carry out the supposed trade. Ting coordinates with his handler, Officer Lau, Ray Lui, who supplies him with an invisible marker that marks the trade location in Ap Lei Pai. Ting uses this marker to guide Lau to the site and helps bust the operation, but it soon becomes clear that this “raid” is a set-up engineered by Hei and Sung. The genuine trade is taking place in Central, while the bust is a trap designed to reveal a mole in Fuk Wo.

East, Sung’s mole inside Fuk Wo, discovers Ting’s invisible market writings and also senses that Tuen may betray Sung. In a brutal turn, Sung kills Sin-yeung and frames Ting for the murder; Ting is knocked out with a taser during the chaos. Determined to clear his name, Ting hunts for the hitman who killed Sin-yeung, aided by Nasty (Cheung Pak-man). The pursuit leads to a tense confrontation at the docks, where the hitman escapes after a scuffle but fatally injures Nasty. Ting manages to subdue the hitman and calls Tuen, urging him to uncover the mastermind behind the killings, whose identity points straight to Sung.

As the case widens, Tuen helps Ting expose East to Hei in order to preserve Ting’s cover, though the revelation drives Tuen toward vengeance against Sung. The climax unfolds on the docks in a brutal showdown: Ting arrives to halt Sung and engages him in a brutal struggle, while Tuen rises, grabs his gun, and shoots Sung—who fires back, wounding Tuen. Both Sung and Tuen are killed in the hail of gunfire, leaving Hei, Shawn, and Ting’s boss Joss (Kenny Wong Tak-Ban) to face life sentences for murder, manslaughter, and drug trafficking.

In the quiet after the storm, Ting achieves his mission in a hard-fought victory, but at a profound personal cost. He discovers Tuen’s police identification and discards it into the water, a stark symbol of the thin line between duty and personal sacrifice, and a reminder that the path of an undercover operative can demand more than one life can bear.
