Jock Wallace and Kitty Brant are fierce competitors in the world of thoroughbred horse breeding. Their rivalry intensifies when Jock successfully bids $500 for a promising yet injured horse named Abby R, much to the anger of the owner’s niece, Leslie Hale, who believes the horse to be worth significantly more.

Intrigued by Leslie, Jock invites her to the legendary Kentucky Derby to witness one of his horses in action. However, Leslie is already romantically linked to a diplomat named Bill Van Dyke and has plans to accompany him to England for the coronation of King George VI. Undeterred, Jock decides to pursue her to England while simultaneously entering Abby R in the prestigious Ascot Gold Cup.

While aboard a ship destined for Argentina, where Jock intends to race Abby R, he wins over Leslie’s heart, resulting in their marriage. Tragedy strikes when Kitty reappears in Jock’s life, alongside his unfulfilled promises and mounting racing debts, which lead to Leslie experiencing a miscarriage. In her heartache, she departs from Jock, leaving him alone.

Meanwhile, Valiant, a gifted horse Jock presented to Leslie, begins to dominate the racing scene, clinching victories at notable tracks such as Saratoga, Belmont, and Hollywood Park. To reclaim Leslie’s affection, Jock receives a gift horse from Kitty and decides to enter it against Valiant in the upcoming Kentucky Derby. The thrilling race culminates with Leslie’s horse narrowly winning by a nose, yet amid the drama, Jock manages to win back Leslie’s love, illustrating the unpredictable twists of passion and rivalry in the world of horse racing.
