Jim and Sara Evers are a thriving family in the real estate business, blessed with two children, Michael and Megan. However, the demands of work take a toll on their personal life, as Jim, a dedicated workaholic, neglects to remember their wedding anniversary. In a bid to mend his relationship, he proposes a getaway to a picturesque nearby lake. Unbeknownst to them, a twist of fate awaits as Sara is approached by the residents of Gracey Manor, nestled in the enchanting bayou. Excited by the prospect of a new deal after learning about this mysterious mansion, Jim decides to take his family there, where they are greeted by the enigmatic owner, Edward Gracey, his trustworthy butler Ramsley, and the mansion’s devoted staff—maid Emma and footman Ezra.

As fate would have it, a torrential rainstorm floods the nearby river, forcing the Evers to seek refuge for the night at Gracey Manor. During a private meeting in the library, Ramsley guides Jim to discuss the potential sale with Gracey, but an unexpected obstacle arises when Jim finds himself trapped in a hidden passage. Meanwhile, Sara receives an intriguing tour of the mansion from Gracey, who delves into the haunting history of the estate, recounting his “grandfather” and the tragic demise of his lover, Elizabeth Henshaw. In a curious twist, their children, Megan and Michael, follow an ethereal orb up to the attic, only to discover a portrait of a woman strikingly resembling Sara herself. Emma and Ezra soon identify this mysterious figure as the late Elizabeth.

In a captivating turn of events, Jim encounters Madame Leota, the ghostly fortune-teller with her head encased within a mystical crystal ball. When he reunites with Emma, Ezra, and his children, he returns to Leota seeking answers about the uncanny resemblance between Sara and Elizabeth. The revelation is startling: the spirits inhabiting the mansion are souls cursed a century ago due to the tragic circumstances surrounding Elizabeth’s and Gracey’s untimely deaths. They are bound to their haunted domain until the lovers are reunited, leading to the stunning assertion that Sara may, in fact, be the reincarnation of Elizabeth. Leota then instructs the Evers to venture to the mansion’s cemetery in search of a key that will unlock the mystery surrounding Elizabeth’s demise.

With determination, Jim and Megan discover the key hidden within a crypt beneath a mausoleum; however, their discovery inadvertently awakens its ghastly inhabitants. The children are miraculously aided by Michael, who conquers his fear of spiders to rescue them all. Following this harrowing encounter, Leota leads the family to an attic trunk, which Jim opens to unveil a poignant letter penned by Elizabeth to Gracey. In a poignant twist, the letter reveals Elizabeth’s genuine love for Gracey and her desire to marry him, disproving the long-held belief that she committed suicide. The villainous Ramsley appears next, unveiling the shocking truth that he was the one responsible for Elizabeth’s death, fearing that her relationship with Gracey would taint his legacy.

Trapped within a trunk, Ramsley attempts to cover up his vile crime by throwing Jim out of the mansion, while Gracey and Sara have their own confusing interaction. Upon meeting in the ballroom, Sara is bewildered when Gracey insists that she is the reincarnation of his beloved Elizabeth, a claim she vehemently denies. Ramsley, however, coaxes Sara into agreeing to marry Gracey with the threat of harm looming over her children.

With encouragement from Leota, Jim perseveres to return to the mansion, breaking through to rescue his children and thwarting the wedding between Sara and Gracey. He presents Gracey with Elizabeth’s letter, which finally exposes Ramsley’s deceitful acts. In an intense confrontation, Gracey demands justice from Ramsley, who, in a fit of rage, conjures wraiths to attack the Evers. Yet, the unveiling of the truth has consequences; a fierce entity emerges from the ballroom fireplace, ready to drag Ramsley into the depths of Hell for his misdeeds. Desperate to reclaim Jim as his own, Ramsley’s attempts are thwarted, thanks to Gracey’s timely intervention.

During an intense and dramatic moment, Sara succumbs to Ramsley’s poison while at the altar. However, the spectral orb reappears, possessing Sara and revealing its true identity as Elizabeth’s ghost, bound to this realm until the truth about her death was uncovered. In a soulful reunion, Elizabeth and Gracey find each other again, allowing Sara to miraculously revive. With the curse finally broken, Gracey hands the Evers the deed to the mansion as he departs with Elizabeth, Emma, Ezra, and other lost souls to the afterlife. As the Evers drive across the scenic Lake Ponchartrain Causeway, they embark on a long-deserved vacation, now joined by Leota and the four melodious busts they encountered while uncovering the mansion’s dark secrets, humorously strapped to the back of their car.
