The Harbinger

The ending of “The Harbinger” reveals that Daniel is not actually a malevolent figure intent on killing everyone; rather, he is a former harbinger who was assigned to gather souls for Lucifer, but in this life, he was sent to a town filled with other retired harbingers. These beings are tasked with collecting souls through their own personal sins or actions, but Daniel’s previous life involved only minor offenses, such as dropping a relic for a scammer, which prevented him from killing anyone this time. Throughout the film, the narrative hints that Daniel, despite being labeled a potential murderer by the police, is innocent, and he is ultimately trying to save his daughter from the evil influence that has possessed her.

When Daniel confronts the dark forces at the cemetery, he discovers that Rosalie’s soul has been kidnapped by Lucifer himself, who appears as the ancient serpent Luc. To free her, Daniel is instructed by Floating Hawk to use a sacred dagger, a relic from Native American folklore, to pierce Rosalie's heart and eradicate the evil spirit that has taken hold of her. Daniel's plan involves poisoning her drink to get her to the cemetery, where they attempt to unlock the sacred crypt that holds the key to her salvation. 

However, the climax takes a twist when John, who has been pretending to help Daniel, reveals himself as a fraud — a harbinger himself, but working against Daniel's plan. He pulls out a spherical relic that could summon Luc, trying to convince Daniel to abandon his mission. This confrontation leads to a fight, during which an angelic emissary intervenes to protect Daniel, only to be killed by John, revealing a deeper betrayal. 

Finally, Daniel makes the ultimate sacrifice by stabbing himself to give his soul to Lucifer, believing this will release Rosalie’s trapped spirit. His selfless act successfully breaks the curse, and Rosalie awakens, pure and joyful again. The film’s final scenes show Daniel and his family leaving the cemetery, restored and freed from the evil that haunted them. Yet, Lucifer warns that he isn’t defeated forever and will return stronger, implying the cycle of darkness may not be over. Ultimately, the story emphasizes themes of sacrifice, redemption, and the enduring battle between good and evil, with Daniel’s love and sacrifice saving his daughter and restoring her innocence.
