The Green Slime

An asteroid named Flora is detected on a collision course with Earth, threatening extinction. The space program summons Commander Jack Rankin to lead Gamma 3 in destroying Flora, warning that failure would mean he may not return.

Rankin reaches space station Gamma 3 and encounters his old comrade, Commander Vince Elliott. Their shared history adds tension to the mission, but Rankin stays focused on the goal of destroying Flora.

Rankin leads a shuttle onto the surface of Flora to plant bombs and destroy the asteroid. The crew secures the landing site and begins setting the charges for the mission.

On Flora’s surface, an amoeba-like creature attaches to their vehicles and drains energy. Dr. Halversen tries to bring a sample aboard in a sealed container, but Rankin shatters it, allowing slime to cling to Halversen’s spacesuit.

The bombs detonate and Flora is destroyed. The crew returns to Gamma 3 and preparations for decontamination begin.

Decontamination energy causes the slime to evolve into new forms. An alarm sounds in the decontamination chamber and an officer entering the area is killed by an unseen attacker.

Senior officers discover the murdered crew member and a one-eyed tentacled creature that discharges electricity. Laser attempts fail as the creature's electricity causes its blood to spawn additional monsters, rapidly multiplying their numbers.

Dr. Halversen is killed while trying to contain the creatures. Rankin decides to evacuate Gamma 3 and plans to burn the station up in Earth's atmosphere to prevent further spread.

Vince Elliott returns to help Rankin but is killed while attempting to save him. His sacrifice underscores the stakes of the mission and the resolve to finish it.

Rankin sets up a crash landing and escapes with Elliott's body on the shuttle as Gamma 3 burns and the green slime creatures are destroyed. The mission nears completion as re-entry looms.

Rankin logs the mission as a success and recommends the highest citation for Vince Elliott posthumously. The sacrifice is recognized as essential to ending the threat to Earth.
