Hart and Moore sell cadavers to Edinburgh medical students. As legal sources dry up they murder vagrants, prostitutes and drunks to meet demand, but when they poison a man, Jamie, the townspeople revolt. The film was meant to depict Burke and Hare, but censors objected, so the dialogue was re‑recorded, replacing the names with Hart and Moore.
