The Devil's Dolls (2016) Plot Summary Explained

The story begins with a young woman named Amber fleeing from a serial killer known as Henry. Just as she is nearly murdered, she is rescued by a detective named Matt, who shoots and kills the killer. Following the incident, Matt and his partner Darcy discover a box of four cursed worry dolls that belonged to Henry. Although an elderly woman named Della, who raised Henry, attempts to reclaim them, the dolls are taken as police evidence.

The situation takes a dark turn when Matt's young daughter, Chloe, discovers the dolls while visiting her mother, Amy. Chloe turns the dolls into necklaces and sells them at her mother's shop. Each person who buys a necklace becomes possessed and violent, leading to a series of murders. Even Chloe falls victim to the curse after her mother buys one for her, resulting in the girl being hospitalized after she kills a dog.

As Matt and Darcy investigate the crimes, they realize the perpetrators all bought the dolls from Chloe. Della reveals that while the dolls once possessed healing magic, they were corrupted by Henry's sorrow and darkness following his father's death. She warns that the only way to break the curse is to bring Chloe and the dolls to her. While Matt and Darcy manage to recover three of the dolls, Darcy is tragically killed while retrieving the final one from Ethan, Amy's boyfriend.

In the climax, Matt brings Chloe and the dolls to Della, only to learn the horrifying truth: to cleanse the dolls and restore their goodness, Chloe must die because Henry's darkness now resides within her. Refusing to sacrifice his daughter, Matt struggles with Della and throws the worry dolls into a fireplace. Della attempts to save them, accidentally setting herself on fire before jumping into a lake. Ultimately, the curse is broken, and both Chloe and Della survive.
