On January 16 1995, elementary student Tsuyoshi Takahashi obsesses over perfect grades, neglecting friends like classmate Miho, who wishes he would notice others, and bedridden Kazu. The next day the devastating 1995 Kobe–Hyogo earthquake kills thousands and leaves many homeless.
