Toko Ikuta loses her parents in a car crash at age three and is raised by her uncle, a barbershop owner in Morioka. She becomes a local idol and dreams of acting, planning a Tokyo audition at 19. The March 11, 2011 Tohoku earthquake hits the day before. Later that year she works in a café, volunteers in tsunami‑hit Kesennuma with Korean coworker Han Yoo‑Ri, meets university student Kiyotaka Shimizu from a volunteer group, and they fall in love as the town rebuilds.
