A celebrated French director is commissioned by a major Hollywood producer to film a documentary on post‑Cold War Russia. Defying the assignment, he refuses to travel, stays in France and casts himself as Dostoyevsky’s ‘The Idiot.’ The resulting work becomes a self‑portrait that launches a series of Godard‑style meditations on art, politics, the nature of images and the future of cinema.
