Based on Konstantin Simonov’s play, an American journalist lives in the Soviet Union and sees socialism in action. Back in the U.S., an editor offers a large advance to turn his observations into a book, allowing him to buy a house and a car. The editor demands a negative portrayal of Soviet society, forcing the reporter to choose profit over truth.
