Three linked sequences compose this short film by Jean‑Marie Straub. The opening is a long tracking shot from a car that follows prostitutes plying their trade on the night‑time streets of Germany. The middle segment is a staged play, trimmed to ten minutes and filmed in a single take. The final part shows the marriage of James and Lilith and Lilith’s subsequent execution of her pimp, played by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Straub calls the work a look at Western decadence.
