Aspiring rapper Owen Ellison and his childhood friend and manager Jeff Levine embark on a quest for fame when they unexpectedly discover Bernard in a bathroom stall, mistaking him for the sought-after Rahmel. In a stroke of luck, Jeff persuades Bernard to get Rahmel to attend their upcoming gig, offering producer credits on a future album in return.
Upon returning home from school, Owen encounters Alicia, Jeff's sister, whom he has harbored feelings for since childhood. He extends an invitation for her to come to their next performance. Meanwhile, Jeff invites his father, who admonishes Jeff to focus on his Harvard ambitions rather than chasing a music career.
