James, Ratheesh, a wealthy businessman, drives home on Christmas Eve and notices a van trailing closely behind him. He tries to outrun the threat, but a convoy blocks his escape, and the van ultimately shoves his car into a lake, where both the car and James drown. His wife Susanna, Urvashi, an orphan by background, and their young son Rony are left reeling from the shock. With little family support, Susanna leans on close friends Antony, K. P. A. C. Azeez, and his wife, Mary, KPAC Lalitha, as she tries to piece together a future for herself and her child.
At the funeral, James’s estranged father, Kurien Joseph, Jagannatha Varma, and his brother David arrive, signaling a looming power struggle over the estate. While some relatives pretend to offer comfort, others press for control, and the family soon files a lawsuit claiming Susanna’s marriage to James is invalid, effectively stripping Susanna and Rony of any claim to the wealth. Susanna is also threatened by Kurien and David’s men as she attempts to safeguard what little remains. The situation grows more perilous as Antony and his circle attempt to assist Susanna, only to face pressure and intimidation from those who want to keep James’s fortune in the family fold.
With the legal battle intensifying, Susanna seeks representation, but Advocate Rajasekharan, Janardhanan, refuses to take the case, citing his ties with Kurien. In desperation, she engages George Korah, Mammootty, an old-fashioned advocate whose brusque manner and stubborn pride mask a more complex moral code. George is a flawed, tobacco-chewing lawyer who often finds himself at odds with dissatisfied clients, and he is protected by his loyal assistant Appukkuttan Pillai, Kunchan. Initially, George’s involvement appears transactional, but the case soon reveals deeper motives and a capacity for righteous persistence.
Complicating matters is the church wedding register, which is discovered to be missing the entry for James and Susanna’s marriage in April 1981, erasing crucial documentary proof of their union. To clear the path, they seek testimony from Father Gabriel, P K Abraham, who officiated the ceremony, only to learn that the elderly priest is suffering from dementia and cannot confirm the record. A violent setback follows when four men brutally attack George and Pillai on their return from the hospital. Although George is briefly deterred, a renewed resolve drives him to press on with the case, and he moves into James’s bungalow after the attackers wreck his office.
As the investigation unfolds, Susanna finally opens up about her past. She explains that as an orphan with accounting training, she once confronted a job interview at James’s company where he coerced and assaulted her. A police misstep had previously labeled her a prostitution suspect, and she spent time in a rescue shelter before James found her, had her treated, and married her. This backstory, once affirmed, strengthens George’s case and casts doubt on the motives of those who sought to undermine Susanna. The discovery of a wedding video tape and the identification of one of the assailants help connect the dots, while the involvement of the business manager, Unnikrishnan, Nazar Latheef, is brought to light as a possible piece of a broader scheme.
With mounting evidence, George reconstructs the truth in court, filing a private suit that James was murdered and exposing the collusion that had allowed Kurien Joseph to maneuver for control of the family assets. Witnesses from the past, including James’s ex-assistant Peter, corroborate the narrative of Kurien’s involvement in the machinations surrounding the wealth. The court’s findings reveal Kurien as a central actor in the struggle for succession, and sentencing is fast-tracked to the next day as the legal process unfolds.
In a final, brutal turn, Kurien launches a last-ditch assault on Susanna, Rony, and Antony as they travel home. Antony is stabbed to death, but George arrives just in time to shield them from further harm. The confrontation ends with Kurien’s car plunging into a mountain ditch, eliminating his bid for power and closing a chapter that had hinged on family deceit, legal maneuvering, and a fight for dignity and safety. The verdict and the unraveling of the conspiracy leave Susanna and her child poised to build a life rooted in truth, protection, and a future that no longer rests on manipulation or fear.
