In the year 2039, the world has been reshaped by the ashes of successive global conflicts. Governments have crumbled, and in their place, a handful of powerful megacorporations have carved the remnants of civilization into fragmented territories. North America now falls under the iron grip of the Tekken Corporation, the strongest of these corporate overlords, whose chairman Heihachi Mishima presides over a ruthless new order. To maintain control over a restless populace, the corporations have sanctioned a brutal annual tournament known as "Iron Fist," where elite combatants fight until a single champion remains — a spectacle of violence that grants the victor wealth, fame, and glory for their sponsoring empire.

Beyond the gleaming walls of Tekken City lies the Anvil, a sprawling slum where the corporation's influence fades but its weight is still felt. Here, Jin Kazama lives with his mother Jun, a quiet and watchful woman who has raised him in isolation, never speaking of his father and shielding him from the corruption that festers just outside their door. A rebellious young man, Jin makes his living running contraband for resistance groups that dare to defy the Tekken Corporation, a dangerous game that puts him at odds with his mother's wishes and with the elite enforcers known as the Jackhammers. Jun forbids her son from entering Iron Fist, warning that the tournament represents the very forces that ignited the world's destruction.

Beneath the surface of this fractured society, old secrets and simmering tensions threaten to unravel what little stability remains. Jin's yearning for a better life pulls him toward the violence he has been taught to avoid, while the towering figure of Heihachi Mishima casts a long shadow over both city and slum. The Tekken Corporation's grip tightens with each passing tournament, and the line between survival and rebellion grows thinner with every shadow that crosses the Anvil's borders. As alliances form in unlikely places and whispered histories begin to surface, Jin finds himself standing at the edge of a destiny he never chose — one that could reshape the balance of power in a world where the strongest always claim the throne.

More Movies Like Tekken, by Mood & Story

Curated lists built around what makes Tekken tick: the same mood, the same kind of story or the same emotional payoff. Each list explains why these movies belong together.

Dystopian tournament thrillers like Tekken

Futuristic wastelands where corporations stage brutal combat for the masses. Movies like Tekken that drop you into corporate-controlled wastelands where deadly combat tournaments, fight-to-the-death arenas, and survival showdowns replace justice. If you liked Tekken's brutal tournament framework and gritty futuristic setting, these dystopian action films deliver the same high-intensity, adrenaline-fueled violence and oppressive world-building.

  • dystopian
  • brutal
  • adrenaline-fueled
  • oppressive
  • survival
  • visceral
  • Tone: dark, brutal, oppressive
  • Pacing: fast and relentless
Why these movies?

The story pattern: An unlikely fighter enters a sanctioned combat event run by a powerful ruling body, faces escalating opponents in lethal rounds, and must survive long enough to confront the architect of the system. Each victory exposes deeper rot in the regime, and the final showdown forces a choice between personal revenge and exposing the truth. Sacrifice is inevitable, and the world rarely gets a clean victory.

Why they belong together: They share a post-collapse setting ruled by corporations, a central combat tournament or arena mechanic, high body counts, and protagonists who fight not for glory but for survival or vengeance. Tone is uniformly dark, pacing is fast and fight-driven, and endings lean bittersweet or bleak, with power gained only through immense personal loss.

Vengeful family dramas like Tekken

Grief-stricken heirs who hunt their own blood for the truth. Movies like Tekken that explore grief, revenge, and buried family secrets through father-son conflict and brutal reckonings with the past. If you liked Tekken's heavy emotional weight, patricide-driven plot, and bittersweet ending where victory is paid for in blood, these revenge dramas about broken bloodlines and parental betrayal will hit the same nerve.

  • vengeful
  • grief-driven
  • family trauma
  • father-son conflict
  • bitter reckoning
  • scars of the past
  • Tone: vengeful, melancholic, dark
  • Pacing: steady build to explosive reckoning
Why these movies?

The story pattern: A grieving child discovers their parent is the architect of unspeakable harm. The protagonist trains, hunts, and closes in on a confrontation that has been years in the making, peeling back layers of denial, complicity, and lies. The climactic meeting forces both parties to face what was done and what cannot be undone, and the resolution leaves the hero changed, often powerful but permanently scarred.

Why they belong together: They share a father-son or parent-child conflict at the emotional core, a revenge engine fueled by grief and hidden family crimes, and a bittersweet or tragic ending where the protagonist gains something but loses more. Tone tends dark, emotional weight runs heavy, and pacing builds steadily toward a single devastating confrontation.
