Tale of the Mummy

An archaeological dig in Egypt reveals a tomb of Talos. The hieroglyphics warn against entering, but the team opens the chamber and a cloud of dust blasts out, causing the archaeologists to crumble as if made of brittle stone. Richard Turkel sacrifices himself, blowing the tomb shut and dying in the process.

Sam Turkel, the granddaughter of Richard, continues the expedition in 1999 with Brad, Burke, and another team member. They break into Talos burial chamber and see a sarcophagus suspended from the ceiling. Burke dies when he reaches for an amulet; Brad experiences a seizure as Talos past atrocities flash before him.

Nine months later, a power cut interrupts the run up to an exhibition of Talos sarcophagus. The container is broken open and a foreigner is killed, his eyes removed. Detective Riley is assigned to the case and soon senses a ritual murder pattern tied to Talos.

Talos begins killing several people and removing organs from his victims, signaling a waking, ritualistic force. Riley continues the investigation and starts to connect the murders to the Talos myth. The pattern hints that Talos seeks rebirth through the victims bodies.

Brad explains Talos history to Riley: exile from Greece for sorcery, arrival in Egypt, and his love for Nefriama. He describes a pagan ceremony, the Pharaohs army attacking, and Nefriama dying as Talos heart is exposed. He also explains that Talos curse makes anyone who knows the secret appear crazy.

Brad is arrested and continues to reveal Talos history to Riley. After the interrogation, Talos appears and kills Detective Bartone and Brad, showing his lethal reach.

A reborn Talos finds Sam and, after posing as a dog, captures her. Sam manages to flee briefly but is ultimately seized, setting the stage for Riley to follow the ritual. This marks Talos return to active pursuit.

Riley and his team perform a ritual using Brad's dead body to reveal Sam's location at an unfinished construction site. They arrive with eighteen minutes remaining before the planets align. The plan hinges on timing to prevent Talos from rebirth.

Sam enters a room where a huge cocoon of gauze holds the dead victims. A mummy emerges and quickly evolves into Talos true form, though the heart is missing. The moment signals Talos return to physical immortality.

Riley and Claire arrive with the group and separate from Butros and Professor Marcus. Talos manipulates Marcus into killing Butros by strangling her, while Claire sustains a leg injury, forcing Riley to press on alone.

Riley finds Sam bound and helpless; Talos confronts them. Sam begs Riley to kill her so the ritual cannot complete. Riley shoots Sam to stop Talos, though the larger danger remains.

Riley is revealed to be the reincarnation of Nefriama, the Pharaoh daughter, making his heart the key Talos needs. Sam dying would have completed the rite, but Claire arrives to grab the heart that resides within Talos.

Claire intervenes and removes the heart from within Talos as the planetary alignment occurs. Talos uses the heart to strengthen himself just as the rite would complete. Police arrive to discover the aftermath and a hysterical Claire.

In London, a newly reborn Talos is shown disguised as Riley, signaling that the threat continues beyond the immediate events.
