Morgan Sher is a crime scene cleaner who uses keen observation to glean clues from gruesome scenes. Nick Hopewell is the new partner who seeks to prove himself and win the captain's approval. He is drawn to Sher’s investigative acumen but finds the personal chemistry complicating their professional dynamic. His willingness to bend rules to get results contrasts with Sher’s policy against dating cops.

Detective Ed Braxton is talented but scarred by past failures; his reputation was damaged when Sher helped solve a crime he couldn't. He resents Sher for upstaging him and initially resists her involvement. As events unfold, he faces moral doubt about his rigid approach to justice.

Captain LaSalle runs the precinct and is focused on keeping the investigation on track. She pushes back when Hopewell tries to take control and demands accountability from everyone involved. Her leadership heightens the stakes, framing whether the truth will prevail or be buried.
