Based on Yamagami Itaro’s novel, it follows a band of ronin in the waning Edo period. Led by Konoe Jushiro, they linger at a fringe restaurant and bar, a troupe of masterless samurai lost to drink and vice. A disgraced warrior seeks redemption when hired to retrieve a famed knife from a corrupt lord. Directed by Makino Masahiro, this third version is deemed a classic.
