In 1701, Lord Asano attacks Kira in the shogun’s palace and is forced to commit seppuku, while his lands are taken and Kira escapes punishment. Stripped of status, Asano’s samurai become ronin. Their leader, Kuranosuke Oishi, asks the shogun to restore the clan, but is denied. A year later Oishi and forty‑six ronin carry out a calculated revenge for their lord.
