Straight Out of Brooklyn

Dennis grows up in a poverty-stricken Red Hook housing project in Brooklyn, witnessing his mother's bruises from ongoing domestic violence and his father's bitter resentment over years of hard work. His father feels he has nothing to show for his labor against 'the white man.' The tense, unstable home life sets the stage for the desperate choices that follow.

Dennis and two friends hatch a plan to steal money by ambushing a local drug dealer. They arrange for one friend to borrow his uncle's car and obtain a shotgun through a connection. The plan is bold and dangerous, reflecting the trio's desperation.
