Starship Invasions

The Winged Serpent Legion, a rogue telepathic alien force led by Captain Rameses, leaves their homeworld Alpha in the Orion constellation as its star nears a supernova. They travel to Earth to assess the planet's suitability for their race. Their plan includes abducting humans and deploying a device intended to drive the population to suicide so Alphans can take over the planet.

Rameses lands at the Intergalactic League's underwater base, posing as a friendly researcher to study their defenses. The League reminds him of the Galactic Treaty forbidding contact with humans. He observes the base and its advanced defenses, gathering intelligence for the coming conflict.

On Earth, Professor Allan Duncan discusses the alien abductions on television, bringing attention to the threat posed by Rameses. The broadcast informs a wide audience and unawares undercuts the Legion's secrecy. Rameses regards the exposure with amusement and indifference.

Rameses' crew sabotages one of the League's saucers, causing it to crash near a United States Army base. The assault leaves the base's defenders wiped out and the League's robots destroyed. The other League saucers prepare to respond.

One of the League's saucers returns to the base to regain control, but its crew is killed in a gunfight, preventing any immediate counterattack. The base's remaining defenses are likewise shut down or neutralized. The League is left more exposed to the Serpent threat.

Rameses sends his ship to engage the remaining League saucer, but the Serpent ship is defeated and destroyed in a fierce space battle. The League momentarily gains the upper hand before facing renewed attack from the Legion.

Rameses calls reinforcements that are hiding behind the Moon to hunt down the surviving League ship. The incoming forces join the pursuit, escalating the space engagement. The League scrambles to respond as Earth watches.

Rameses deploys the extermination device, triggering a suicide epidemic that spreads through abductees and threatens Earth. The planetary crisis stuns human authorities and complicates any potential defense against the Legion.

A surviving League ship contacts Allan Duncan for assistance. Duncan enlists Malcolm, a computer expert, who repairs the alien craft using parts scavenged in downtown Toronto. Their improvised repair becomes Earth’s last hope to reach other League forces.

Malcolm's repair succeeds enough for a takeoff, but a Serpent intercepts them and shoots the ship down. It crashes into First Canadian Place in Toronto, causing chaos but allowing Duncan and Malcolm to continue with a salvage operation.

The repaired League ship refuels and departs Earth, determined to seek help from other League ships in the outer Solar System. The effort marks a turning point in the broader resistance against the Legion.

The League squadron reaches the orbit and engages the Legion in space combat. Rameses uses the computer in the League base to calculate superior strategies, destroying several League ships and turning the battle in his favor.

A robot within the League base is damaged but re-takes command, triggering the extermination unit to destroy itself. Rameses' ships are then directed to collide with one another, sealing the Legion's fate.

During the climactic fighting, the extermination unit's influence is felt as Rameses discovers his sun has gone supernova. He sacrifices his ship by crashing it into the Moon.

The extermination unit's passage over Toronto is followed by the League reaching Duncan's home and reviving his wife, who had been driven to despair by the crisis. Earth is saved as the League renews contact with humanity.
