Childhood sweethearts Magdalena and Michael are torn apart when the Nazis rise. Michael joins the resistance, is captured and sentenced to fifteen years in a camp. Magdalena goes underground, then emigrates to the Soviet Union. In the Red Army, Michael learns she is in Moscow, but she leaves for Germany as his plane lands. He still hopes for reunion.
