Paul Wendlandt, a fighter pilot on leave in Berlin, sees Danish singer Hanna Holberg at the Skala cabaret, follows her, talks in the U‑Bahn, joins a party and they shelter during an air‑raid, spending the night. He returns to the front, but misunderstandings keep them apart—Hanna waits in Berlin, and later she sings in a Christmas concert in Paris.
