Ki‑rye, born to a respectable yet impoverished family, is wed to the dead son of a powerful official. Her sympathetic father‑in‑law aids her escape, and she becomes a maid in Minister Choi’s household. Later she remarries a low‑ranking noble, but faces hardship when she cannot produce a male heir to continue the family line.
