In 1974, the SETI program broadcasts signals into space, sharing Earth's details and DNA structure in hopes of contacting extraterrestrial life. This marks the beginning of humanity's quest to connect with other civilizations beyond our planet.

After two decades of silence, Earth receives an enigmatic message from an alien source. The first transmission contains instructions for creating renewable fuel, leading scientists to believe the aliens might be friendly.

The second alien message introduces a troubling twist, detailing an alien DNA sequence and how to splice it with human DNA. This unsettling information compels the government to initiate a controversial genetic experiment.

Under the leadership of Xavier Fitch, scientists successfully create a hybrid being named Sil. Although she appears as a typical human, Sil matures rapidly, aging twelve years in just three months, raising alarms among the scientists.

As Sil's development progresses, she starts experiencing violent nightmares, which concern the scientists. They take drastic measures to neutralize her, resorting to cyanide gas, but she manages to escape.

In response to Sil's escape, a specialized government team is assembled. This group includes anthropologist Dr. Steven Arden, molecular biologist Dr. Laura Baker, empath Dan Smithson, and mercenary Preston 'Press' Lennox, all tasked with tracking her down.

Sil experiences a horrendous transformation after dreaming of being chased, encasing herself in an organic cocoon. Upon emerging, she appears as a striking young woman, although the origin of her nudity remains ambiguous.

In Los Angeles, Sil's intelligence and physical prowess become apparent as she seeks to find a mate. However, her quest leads to violence when she kills a man in a fit of rage after discovering he is diabetic.

Sil's violent tendencies escalate when another encounter goes horribly wrong after a car accident. Her true monstrous form is revealed, resulting in another man's death, intensifying the urgency for the team to confront her.

Fleeing into the forest, Sil uses the opportunity to conceal herself. After a period of hiding, she undergoes a metamorphosis, cutting and dying her hair, all while developing an obsession with Press.

Sil cleverly seduces Dr. Arden, resulting in a passionate encounter that leads to her pregnancy. However, the revelation of her origins leads to tragedy as she kills Arden in a fit of desperation.

In the sewers, Sil gives birth to her son after fleeing into hiding. The birth marks a turning point in the chaotic saga, leading to heightened desperation and ensuing devastation.

As the government team closes in, Sil's fury results in a violent confrontation, claiming the life of Fitch. Meanwhile, Dan's actions lead to the tragic end of Sil's child during a climactic battle.

In the film's tense climax, Press confronts Sil, leading to a desperate struggle. He ultimately shoots her with a grenade launcher, and she falls into a fiery pool, marking the end of her reign of terror.

In a chilling final scene, Sil's legacy continues as a rat consumes one of her severed tentacles, resulting in a horrifying mutation. This serves as a grim reminder of the perils that arose from the scientists' hubris.
