Ramesan, Dileep, to support his five-member family by selling pickles and other eatables, arrives in the border town of Pandavapuram under a string of difficult circumstances. The town's stark, dreary conditions set the stage for the film's unflinching look at life there.

Devumma, Bindu Panicker, runs a brothel and gives him shelter.

Bharathiyakka, an old inmate of the house, fills her wallet with money earned by selling virgins to infamous pimps.

She persuades Devumma to sell Shivani to a wealthy Zamindar.

Between dreams of cash for subsistence and her affection for Shivani, Devumma tries to extract as much money as possible through this arrangement.
