Sonchiriya

In 1975, the Chambal valley becomes the staging ground for dacoits who call themselves Baaghis. Lacchu feeds information to the gang about a planned loot of dowry gold and cash. The Special Task Force, led by Inspector Virendra Singh Gujjar, ambushes the raid, Dadda is killed, and the gang splits: Lakhna wants to surrender while Vakil insists on continuing the rebellion.

Lacchu’s intel triggers the dowry raid, drawing the STF into the chaos. Dadda’s death forces the gang to fracture, exposing fractures in loyalty and purpose. Lakhna seeks surrender to the police, but Vakil presses on with the Baagi way of life.

While on the run, the Baaghis encounter a woman whose family was killed by a rival gang and agree to help her sister reach a hospital. They visit the doctor at night, but the police raid the house, forcing a quick withdrawal. The young girl’s untouchable caste adds social peril to their escape.

Lakhna blows a wall with a gas cylinder to make a rapid truck escape, pulling the group away with Indumati and the young sister. Vakil initially refuses to let Indumati board the vehicle, but relents after she reveals her name, Indumati Toomar, and her village.

At the next stop, Indumati’s family arrives and attempts to take the girls away. Vakil agrees to release them because he had sent for them, while Indumati reveals she killed her father-in-law for raping Sonchiriya, exposing the brutal violence surrounding them.

Lakhna opposes letting Indumati’s family remain with them and takes Vakil’s brother hostage. In the ensuing melee, Indumati’s son kills Vakil’s brother. Lakhna and the group escape with Indumati and Sonchiriya, while Vakil vows to hunt them down.

While crossing the Chumbal River, Lakhna tells Indumati a curse about killing innocent children in a room, which supposedly led to the Baaghis’ downfall. They believe Sonchiriya, the ‘Savior Girl,’ is key to breaking the curse and reaching a hospital. They capture an influential person to present to Phuilya of the Mallah gang, who helps briefly before a police ambush at ruins.

Vakil uncovers that Maan Singh looted the dowry house to save Lacchu’s father from Inspector Gujjar, revealing it as a trap to kill all Baaghis and claim the reward. Gujjar had already kidnapped Lacchu’s father, planning to use the raid to wipe out the gang.

Vakil arrives with his gang at the ruins to aid Lakhna’s escape, taking Indumati and Sonchiriya with them. Lakhna is shot in the abdomen as they push toward safety, intensifying the urgency of their mission.

In the hospital’s vicinity, Indumati’s son confronts the group and attempts to kill his own mother to avenge his grandfather. Lakhna reveals that his grandfather raped his mother and was, in fact, his biological father, a devastating confession that unsettles everyone.

As the girl is being hospitalized, Lakhna, cornered by Gujjar, emerges from hiding to surrender, believing his mission of saving Sonchiriya is complete. The curse-like fate claims him as Gujjar shoots him dead.

In the aftermath, Vakil Singh is killed by the police at the railway station, and his corpse is loaded onto a tractor. The pursuit of the Baaghis ends with a brutal display of state power and retribution.

Moments after, Gujjar is shot and killed by a Thakur constable at the railway station, whose own family ties to power reflect the cycle of violence that plagues the region. The police response closes in on the last rebels as the story reaches its grim conclusion.
