In the rain-soaked depths of the South American rainforest, a troubling legend seems to walk the land in a new, deadly form. Vampires, long whispered about in the jungle, are now openly attacking humans in packs—like roving dogs—and they move without fear of the sun. Knives and bullets barely slow them down, and their appetite for blood seems boundless. The military, convinced they are nothing more than tribal anomalies who believe in vampiric power, faces a stark reality: the threat is real, organized, and evolving.
At the heart of the response is the determination of a single commanding figure: Colonel Jessica Weaver. She believes the danger runs deeper than superstition and dispatches Hawk and his platoon back to the jungle to finish what they started six months prior. Their mission is to reach Agua Caliente, a river town in a no-fly zone, where they are supposed to rendezvous with a scout who has gone ahead to gather intelligence. Weaver’s sidekicks include the massive force of Grieves, whose presence looms large even before the first encounter, and a personal stake: Laurie Williams, a university entomologist and Hawk’s former wife, who is currently on a field expedition and is believed to be somewhere in the same region.
Meanwhile, in the jungle, Laurie Williams and her small team press through the forest with a local guide named Luiz. Their path crosses with a troubled village where a young boy, wielding a stake, threatens a man. Laurie calmly uses a ploy and language trick to defuse the moment, learning quickly that the forest’s legends may be closer to reality than anyone suspects. The boy’s village and its uneasy air hint at a larger danger, and Javier Vasquez, a local hotel owner, steps in to explain what is really happening. He conveys a cautionary tale about vampires, a legend tied to a fountain of youth that granted immortality at a terrible price: blood must be consumed to sustain it. Javier’s hospitality becomes a tentative bridge between two worlds as he invites Laurie to stay at his Agua Caliente hotel.
Back with Hawk, trouble arrives in a crowded bar where Grieves and his men are torn from the land of the living by a brutal assault. The vampires capture them and drive a stake into their plans, revealing Guillermo as their leader and the plan to recruit Grieves into their fold. Grieves wakes to find himself infected, his transformation underway as Guillermo reveals the deeper intent: the vampires want to learn guerrilla tactics from him and reshape their hunt. The loyalties of the jungle have shifted, and Grieves becomes the first to fall to his fate, feeding on one of his own soldiers.
As Hawk and his squad push toward Agua Caliente, they notice blue trail markers left by Laurie’s party and push onward, only to face a deadly ambush. Estrella, a vampiric figure of influence among the nest, appears outside Hawk’s tent and is driven back, but the group is quickly overwhelmed by a second, more cohesive threat. The crew spends a tense night before deciding that water travel might offer a safer route, renting a boat to navigate the river toward their destination. They pass market posts, encounter a purveyor peddling vampire keepsakes, and stumble upon more signs that the vampires are growing smarter and more dangerous—guns in their arsenal and a plan to spread through the region.
The river journey reveals the scale of the threat. A man on a sugar plantation describes a well-coordinated attack by an organized group of vampires, some of them soldiers led by a figure described as a “Negro grande.” Hawk’s team begins to understand that this is no isolated incident—vampiric forces are consolidating, and the forest is driving their hunger toward humans in larger swathes.
Arriving at Agua Caliente, Laurie and her companions finally reach Javier’s hotel. Javier explains the forest’s dangers and reiterates the legend of the fountain of youth—immortality won at a terrible price. The conversation is interrupted when Hawk reaches out by phone, warning Laurie not to venture back into the jungle until he can secure her safety. Yet fate intervenes when Estrella attacks Laurie at night, and Javier escorts Laurie into the cave where the vampires hide.
That night, Grieves’s faction launches a bold attack on Hawk’s camp. The battle is fierce, and Hawk sustains serious injuries while the team fights for survival. The moment of decision comes when Hawk gives the order to follow the vampires to their nest, hoping to save his friend and perhaps salvage the situation. They wake to a grim reality: Grieves has become a true threat, and the fate of the mission hangs in the balance.
In the climactic sequence, Javier reveals his true identity as a conquistador from Queen Isabella I’s court, sent to convert the natives—only to be converted by them and by his daughter Estrella. He returns with Laurie to the cave, and a triple threat unfolds: Estrella battles Laurie, Javier transforms into a colossal bat, and Hawk faces a choice that could seal their doom or redeem them all. The decisive moment comes when Laurie uses a stake to pierce Estrella’s chest, while Hawk destroys the bat-like threat by collapsing the cave with a falling stalactite, pinning Javier to the ground. Hawk follows through, severing Javier’s head to end his reign of terror.
With the immediate danger fading, Hawk and Laurie share a quiet moment of relief and reconciliation: they kiss, acknowledging the rekindled bond between them. Outside the cave, Colonel Weaver and Alex Juarez wait. Weaver explains that they had been stationed nearby, ready to intervene, while Hawk had chosen to act on his own to rescue Laurie. The emotional tension subsides as Laurie melts with relief and the two of them step into the daylight together, leaving the cave behind them.
In the end, the remaining threat is not fully extinguished—one vampire makes a final leap at Colonel Weaver, who calmly ends the threat with a precise shot from a dart gun. Still, the bridge between humanity and the jungle remains shaky, and Hawk and Laurie walk out hand in hand, the memory of the struggle etched into their renewed partnership. The forest’s shadows may linger, but their resolve to protect each other—and the people they care about—emerges stronger than ever.
