The film opens with a narration by Daria Nicolodi as a mother tells a bedtime story from a vast, ancient book. In Basra, the evil vizier Jaffar has clouded the caliph’s mind and imprisoned his daughter, Princess Alina, hoping to force a marriage to seize power. Jaffar has scattered four of Basra’s five sacred gems to dangerous corners where they are guarded by protective magic.

Sinbad and his crew arrive at the caliph’s palace, only to be seized by hypnotized soldiers. [Jaffar] sentences Sinbad’s crew to the torture chamber while the mighty Sinbad is doomed to a pit of snakes. He escapes by tying the snakes into a rope and using it to pull his companions free. As they flee Basra, Jaffar calls upon dark powers that conjure an evil cloud over the ship and awaken the Legions of Darkness—the undead warriors. Together with his friends, Sinbad defeats the undead and their fearsome leader.

Sinbad then seeks aid from a wise Oracle on a mysterious island, who reveals the location of the four sacred gems of Basra. He sails to a new island, finds the first gem, and vanquishes a towering rock monster to claim it. Soukra, a sorceress allied with Jaffar, joins the plot and helps sharpen the plan to seize the remaining power. The second gem lies on the island of the Amazons, where the Amazons hypnotize Sinbad’s crew and their leader, Queen Farida, takes Sinbad captive. The Bald Cook and Poochie the dwarf aid in the rescue, and Sinbad retrieves the second gem—the Queen’s necklace.

The voyage then leads to the Isle of the Dead, where Ghost Knights rise from the graves to fulfill an ancient destiny. Sinbad confronts the Ghost King while his companions fend off the spectral knights. Jaffar intensifies the danger by breathing life into the Ghost King with dark magic, weakening Sinbad, but the sailor resists and destroys the Ghost King with his own sword, claiming the third sacred gem.

On the Isle, Sinbad meets Kyra and her father, Nadir, two survivors who arrived there by a flying balloon. With their help, Sinbad teams up to rid the island of its monsters. They encounter a gnawing horde of ghouls, and Kyra is captured. Sinbad rescues her, but must face a terrible monster known as the Lord of Darkness, a creature that fires energy bolts from its wrists and guards the last gem of Basra. Sinbad defeats this evil force with the aid of the gathered gems and claims the final gem, then escapes the island in a balloon with Nadir.

Reunited with his companions, Sinbad and his crew march to confront Jaffar. Soldiers clash as Sinbad battles the vizier, who conjures an exact clone of Sinbad to duel him. The real Sinbad prevails, Jaffar is captured, and Princess Alina is freed. With the four sacred gems restored, peace returns to Basra, and the tale ends as the mother folds the book, the room filling with a soft, hopeful light.

Q1

Why does Jaffar imprison Princess Alina?

Jaffar imprisons Princess Alina to force her into marriage, using her as a political lever to seize power over Basra. By marrying the caliph's daughter, Jaffar aims to legitimize his hold on the throne after clouding the caliph's mind with dark magic.

The opening scene establishes Jaffar's control over the caliph and hints at his ambition to rule.

Q2

How does Sinbad escape the snake pit?

A.

Sinbad escapes by tying several snakes together to form a rope, then uses it to climb out of the pit. He then uses this same rope to free his crew members who are trapped in the torture chamber, allowing them all to escape together.

The snake pit seems like an inescapable death trap, but Sinbad's quick thinking turns the snakes into his tool.

Q3

Why does Jaffar scatter the sacred gems across dangerous locations?

A.

Jaffar distributes four of Basra's five sacred gems to remote, magically guarded locations to make them nearly impossible to retrieve. Each gem is protected by different magical forces, a rock monster, the Amazons, Ghost Knights, and the Lord of Darkness, creating a formidable barrier against anyone who would try to restore them.

The vizier's plan demonstrates his cunning; scattering the gems turns a simple theft into a deadly quest.

Q4

How does Sinbad defeat the Lord of Darkness on the Isle of the Dead?

A.

Sinbad defeats the Lord of Darkness, a creature that fires energy bolts from its wrists, by using the power of the four sacred gems he has already collected. The combined magical energy of the gems allows him to overcome the monster and claim the final gem needed to restore Basra.

The Oracle reveals the gems' locations precisely because they will be needed to counter Jaffar's dark magic.

Q5

Why does Jaffar create a clone of Sinbad during the final battle?

A.

Jaffar creates an exact magical clone of Sinbad to fight the real hero, hoping the duplicate would defeat Sinbad and remove his greatest obstacle. The vizier uses dark sorcery to bring this doppelganger to life as a final attempt to win the confrontation.

Jaffar has used dark magic throughout the film, so creating a living duplicate fits his established powers.

Q6

Who are Kyra and Nadir and why are they on the Isle of the Dead?

A.

Kyra and her father Nadir are survivors who arrived on the Isle of the Dead by way of a flying balloon. They agree to help Sinbad defeat the island's monsters in exchange for his aid in clearing the creatures from their home. Their balloon later becomes Sinbad's escape vehicle after defeating the Lord of Darkness.

Their balloon appears as an unusual sight on a cursed island, hinting they are not native to the dangerous location.

Q7

Why does Queen Farida capture Sinbad on the Amazon island?

A.

Queen Farida captures Sinbad because the Amazon island operates under hypnotic influence, and she views him as a potential mate or prisoner. The second sacred gem is hidden within the Queen's own necklace, which Sinbad must retrieve while escaping her captivity.

The Amazons' hypnotic environment traps the entire crew, making this island a psychological challenge before the physical battle.

Q8

What does the Oracle reveal to Sinbad about the gems?

A.

The Oracle on the mysterious island reveals the exact locations of all four sacred gems of Basra that Jaffar has scattered. This knowledge gives Sinbad a clear path for his quest, mapping out the dangerous locations where each gem is guarded by magical protection.

Seeking the Oracle is Sinbad's first strategic move after escaping Basra, showing he understands he needs guidance for the journey ahead.

Q9

Why does Jaffar summon the Legions of Darkness against Sinbad?

A.

Jaffar summons the Legions of Darkness, undead warriors awakened by dark magic, specifically to kill Sinbad when he escapes from Basra with his crew. The vizier calls upon these evil powers when Sinbad flees by sea, sending an evil cloud over the ship and unleashing the undead to ensure the sailor does not return to challenge his rule.

Jaffar's immediate pursuit shows how dangerous he considers Sinbad to be to his plans.

Q10

What is the narrative frame of the film?

A.

The film opens and closes with a mother telling her daughter a bedtime story from a magical ancient book, framing all the events as a legend being passed down. This explains the fairy-tale tone and reinforces that Sinbad's adventure is meant as a heroic tale meant for sharing, not gritty realism.

The closing image of the mother folding the book and the hopeful light returning confirms the cyclical nature of storytelling.
