Fin Shepard moves with his mother Raye and son Gil to the quiet Kansas farm April's Acres, seeking safety. His cousin Gemini accompanies him to neon Las Vegas to reconnect with Matt, who has just returned from Iraq. The mixed family journey sets up the later collision of personal ties with the storm crisis.

Matt and Gabrielle celebrate their wedding in a skydiving ceremony in Las Vegas. A dangerous sandstorm drains water and sharks from a hotel tank, triggering a citywide sharknado that floods the streets. The event shows the limits of Astro-X's control over the storms.

The Las Vegas sharknado persists and chases the group as they flee toward Kansas by train. The storm roams the desert, threatening everyone in its wake. The pursuit underscores the scale of the disaster and sets up the attempt to reach a power source to stop it.

In Astro-X's high-tech labs, Colonel Gilbert Shepard oversees a weaponized mech suit project with his granddaughter Claudia and lead scientist Wilford Wexler. The project hints at militarized solutions amid the crisis, raising questions of power and control. Tensions mount as loyalties clash.

Wilford secretly rebuilds his daughter and Fin’s wife April as a cyborg to save her life after a prior catastrophe. He falsely claims the family was killed in the storm to shield them from harm. The deception sows distrust and drives future actions.

April escapes from Wilford's lab and reveals that she is alive. She confronts the group and exposes Wilford’s lies, reigniting anger and motivation to confront the danger. The revelation shifts trust and pacing for the ensuing mission.

A series of new storms erupts: a lavanado forms in Yellowstone and a hailnado rips through San Francisco. The threats appear to spread beyond the Las Vegas disaster, signaling a global danger. April’s return intensifies the team’s resolve to stop the storms.

The group heads to Fin’s farm in Kansas to regroup against the advancing sharknado. Raye and Gil retreat to a bunker for safety, while the storm’s shockwaves lift the farmhouse and carry it toward Chicago. The move heightens the urgency to implement a solution.

Back at the Astro-X facility, Reynolds upgrades the Astro-Pods with new isotopes to counter the lavanado and hailnado. The enhanced pods become central to the plan to reach Fin's location and halt the storms. The team readies for a high-stakes intervention.

A nuclear tornado forms after the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Ohio is energized by the storm. Reynolds devises a plan to reverse Niagara Falls’ water flow to power a device that will draw water away and cool the storm. The plan requires the mech suit to be in place for operation.

As the device powers up, Reynolds leaps from a jet in a squirrel suit to initiate the water draw. The jump falls short, and he plummets into the water. His sacrifice buys crucial time for the operation.

Shepard volunteers to pilot the mecha, but he, Claudia, and Matt are swallowed by sharks. Fin climbs into the suit, reaches the device, and powers it enough to reverse the Falls’ flow and cool the storm, turning the nukenado back into a normal sharknado. The system finally begins to neutralize the threat.

The Astro-Pods unleash their power and wipe out the storm. Fin is swallowed by a shark that is swallowed by three more sharks and then a blue whale, creating a surreal rescue opportunity. Gil hacks the whale open with a chainsaw, revealing that Shepard, Claudia, and Matt survived.

Fin and the team revive him using April’s power supply and improvised defibrillators from two sharks. In a final surreal twist, the Eiffel Tower falls from the sky and Nova emerges in Paris, signaling that the sharknado threat could spread globally.
