When Sethu attempts to present Abitha with a gift, she rejects him openly. The moment wounds him, and his anger surfaces in a way that unsettles even his closest friends. Sriman, who plays Sethu’s friend, confronts him about his behavior, and while Sethu apologizes, the ache of unrequited love lingers.

A turning point arrives when Sethu unexpectedly uncovers a local brothel and, in the process, unknowingly rescues Abitha’s sister from being drawn deeper into harm. Grateful for the rescue, the sister opens up about the dowry abuse and the life her sister has been forced to endure. Her fiancé—who witnesses Sethu’s act—begins to appreciate the hidden goodness in him and articulates a new perspective to Abitha, admitting he isn’t the right match for her after all. Abitha begins to see that beneath Sethu’s rough exterior lies a solid, compassionate core, capable of a depth she hadn’t anticipated.

Nevertheless, in a moment of desperation and impulsivity, Sethu kidnaps Abitha to an abandoned building, pouring out the intensity of his feelings. Abitha, feeling the weight of his passion and vulnerably real, starts to understand the sincerity behind his rough edges. The moment holds the promise of a shared future, but it’s abruptly interrupted by violence. Brothel goons, seeking revenge on Sethu for exposing their operations, brutally assault him. They overpower him, leaving him battered beyond recognition, his head crushed against a rock and his body dumped on a cliff.

The aftermath is devastating. Sethu’s distraught family admits him to a mental institution where his condition deteriorates. He is moved to a remote asylum, where he endures a gruelling ayurvedic treatment and is kept in a restrained, almost unrecognizable state: bald, emaciated, and chained. Recovery appears uncertain, and the staff’s skepticism about his sanity grows. An attempted escape ends in a serious injury, and Abitha visits the asylum in secret, hoping to connect, but she leaves without hearing him call out because the surroundings are too loud.

Believing that Sethu will never return to normal, Abitha’s father and Vasudevan urge her to go ahead with her previously arranged marriage to her former fiancé. But Sethu’s resilience remains unbroken. He escapes once more and makes his way, limping, to Abitha’s home. There, he is met with a scene of wedding preparations and a crowd, only to discover a far more tragic reality: Abitha has taken her own life, her body adorned with garlands in a silent, heartbreaking farewell.

Devastated, Sethu staggers away without words as his friends and family chase after him in tears. The ashram wardens eventually return him to the institution, and the film closes with him stepping into a van, a shell of the man he once was, carrying the weight of love, loss, and a life that can never be the same again.

Throughout this arc, the film threads social critique with personal tragedy, presenting a portrait of a man shaped by anger who discovers gentleness only to lose it to a brutal world.
