In the smoky heart of post‑war Nottingham, the rhythm of life is dictated by the clang of machinery and the hiss of factory whistles. By day, the streets are lined with rows of modest terraced houses, and the air carries the steady hum of workers heading to the Raleigh bicycle plant, a symbol of both steady employment and lingering monotony.
