Born as a Khitan but raised by a couple from the Song Empire, Kiu Fung, played by Donnie Yen, grows into a righteous and powerful martial artist. He eventually rises to the position of chief of the Beggar Clan, one of the most influential groups in the wulin. However, his life takes a tragic turn when his true ethnic heritage is exposed and he is falsely accused of committing several murders.
Amidst this turmoil, he finds solace and love in Yase Liu as A Zi's sister, A Zhu (Yuqi Chen), who remains loyal even as the martial arts community turns against him. While seeking medical help for an injured A Zhu at the Heroes Gathering Manor, Kiu Fung is cornered by former allies. This confrontation forces him into a violent struggle where he is compelled to kill many of those who once respected him.
Now embracing his Khitan identity and adopting the name Xiao Feng, he sets out with A Zhu to find the mysterious "Leading Big Brother," the man he believes murdered his parents. In a heartbreaking twist of fate, Xiao Feng mistakenly attacks the prince of Dali, believing him to be his enemy, only to discover that he has mortally wounded A Zhu, who was in disguise. Before she passes away, she reveals that the prince is actually her long-lost father.
Devastated by the loss, Xiao Feng is later joined by A Zi (Yase Liu). He eventually faces and defeats Yue Wu as Murong Fu, before burying A Zhu as his wife and riding toward the Liao soldiers. The story concludes with the revelation that Murong Fu was revived by his father, Murong Bo (Ray Lui), and that the true culprit behind the murders was Xiao Feng's own father, Xiao Yuanshan, who had survived all these years.
